AFPviewer

	This is an AFP viewer I started writing a long time ago.  With the help of the AFP community testing and reporting feedback, it has progressed quite a bit since 2003.  Here's a list of features and failures: ◘ Convert pages to many different formats, including PDF, PNG, JPG, TIF, GIF, BMP, and AFP. ◘ Search for text.  Capable of searching multiple files. ◘ Browse thumbnails and TLEs. ◘ Supports objects and structures that other free viewers (and even some paid-for viewers) struggle with.  And if you find something that isn't working right, I'll try to get it resolved. ◘ Extract resource objects for interrogation or use in other print jobs. ◘ Apply overlays and specify spot-color to simulate the final output of your print-job. ◘ Use the selection tool for quick measurements, as well as text and image copying. ◘ Use the compare tool to compare two documents side-by-side.  The second (or 'right-side') file doesn't even need to be AFP. ◘ No trial-ware limitations.  For some reason, this program is free.  If it helps you, consider clicking the 'Donate' button on the Feedback page. ◘ There are a bunch of other functions I added just to see if I could, like Spell-Check (requires MS Office) and SlideShow options. ◘ FOCA - Support for outline fonts is almost non-existent. ◘ BCOCA - No support for 2D barcodes. ◘ GOCA - No support for Cubic Bezier Curves, hatches, weird symbols, etc.

History:

09-20-2022: Fixed an issue with condensing/optimizing files with overlays. I am not happy to see any type of issue in this code. 09-07-2022: Added subset prefixing to postscript fonts in PDFs. 08-24-2022: Removed the 'Unmapped Fonts' prompt during conversion when the 'Use TrueType Fonts' option is disabled. Implemented / testing 'Balanced Trees' for the page tree in PDF output. Implemented / testing the Predictor functions when compressing an Xref object, as well as other changes to reduce the size of the Xref table. Fixed an issue with color not resetting after drawing a BII image in AFP-to-PDF conversion. I may have created this bug in the last couple weeks. 08-23-2022: Working on 'Balanced Trees' for the page tree in PDF output, to optimize Acrobat performance. 08-22-2022: Working on improvements to the Xref table compression in PDF output. In short, implementing the Predictor and chopping a byte of the generation number when possible, as well as removing the 'free' object zero. 08-19-2022: Changed PDF output to create rectangle objects as shapes made of 5 points, to prevent Acrobat from 'enhancing' the thin lines and rectangles. 08-18-2022: Fixed issues with the TLE Browser. It is still extremely slow and needs a re-write, but at least it does not crash now. 08-17-2022: Modified the PDF_BeginPage and PDF_EndPage functions to no longer write the content stream length to a separate object. This reduces the number of resources per page by one. 08-15-2022: Working on RECTs in AFP-to-PDF looking a little too thick. Removed a 1-pixel offset that maybe should not have been there. 08-10-2022: Fixed text rotation code in PCL-to-XML. 08-05-2022: Added BII support in AFP-to-XML. No idea why this wasn't present. Added 1-bit color value to images in XML. Investigating rotation info for images in XML. 08-04-2022: Additional MDR support. The 'Inspect Elements' interface now rotates images as necessary. Cleaned up some (not all) inconsistencies with PCL-to-XML and rotated coordinates of image objects. 08-03-2022: First successful test of PCL-to-PDF conversion. There are still some issues involving rotation that need to be addressed. 08-02-2022: First successful Viewer test with TTF resource objects mapped through MDR. Unfortunately, this relies on the font being compatible with MS Windows, as the AFPviewer creates a temporary font and installs it. I have encountered TTF resources that will not work in Windows. Ironically, those fonts will still work when embedded in a PDF. 07-27-2022: Fixed some signed values in PCL fonts not being handled correctly. 07-08-2022: Fixed issues with PCL-to-XML conversion. Fixed PCL color incorrect after changing from 3-plane palette to 1-plane palette. Fixed some signed values in PCL chars not being handled correctly. 07-07-2022: Adjusted AFP-to-XML and PCL-to-XML to output precise (content-based) line heights instead of always using the font MaxHeight. 07-01-2022: Fixed AFP-to-XML conversion generating invalid XML files due to some characters not being escaped for XML. 06-23-2022: Fixed an issue in AFP-to-PDF conversion and AFP-to-XML conversion that would cause the space character to be encoded incorrectly when it was marked as an invalid character. 06-22-2022: Added /Debug command-line option, which will log certain events within the AFP Viewer. Fixed an issue that could lead to incorrect width of the space character during conversion to PDF. The space character was being dropped if it was marked as Valid=False. Fixed an issue that could lead to incorrect transparency mask (Group4) image encoding during conversion to PDF. I believe the solution was to re-encode the Group4 data if the transparency mask dimensions do not match the IDD, OR if RIDIC=True. 06-21-2022: Implemented new barcode functions for AFP-to-XML and AFP-to-PDF. Conversion speed is much improved. Might even implement this for the viewer itself. This code is great. It's extremely complex, but it makes sense. 06-18-2022: Improvements to the Inspect Elements interface and image objects. 06-17-2022: Changed ImageCacher hash functions to use SHA256 instead of MD5 for FIPS compliance. Not sure it matters at all. 06-15-2022: Testing new code to convert barcodes into Rectangle objects in PDF output. Because my Group4 2D encoder is slow. 06-14-2022: Fixed an issue with converting AFP to PDF, where horizontal text scaling was hard-coded to 100% for PFB fonts. Fixed an issue with converting PCL to XML, where AFP rotation is clockwise, but PCL rotation is counter-clockwise. The XML needed a consistent format (clockwise). Fixed GOCA area detection on rounded boxes. 06-09-2022: Fixed one more positioning issue with PFB fonts in the Viewer. This issue did not impact AFP-to-PDF or the new Inspect Elements interface. 06-06-2022: Fixed duplicate Pattern objects not being consolidated in AFP-to-PDF conversion. 06-01-2022: Added support for MIO Replicate-And-Trim in G42D image conversion to PDF. All the black+white image decoding/mapping needs to be consolidated eventually. 05-24-2022: Improved (?) AFP-to-PDF character encoding functions. 05-19-2022: Fixed incorrect PDF output when using SetVariableSpaceIncrement. 05-18-2022: Fixed multiple issues with PFB handling. PFBs no longer crash Windows Explorer due to improper SendMessage pointer. We'll see if the encoding works with future fonts. PFB font extraction and embedding in PDFs now works. 05-17-2022: Working on extracting PFB fonts from AFP (already works) and embedding directly into PDFs (mostly works). I have only ever encountered two examples of PFB fonts since I started this project. 05-12-2022: Added on-the-fly Annotations to PDFwrite functions, so hyperlinks do not need to be defined before beginning the page. 04-27-2022: Fixed an issue with rendering IMB barcode data, where a binary value was not being left-padded with zero's before CRC calculation, leading to a crash. I feel lucky that I was able to track this down. But then again, it didn't take long to trace, identify, and fix. 04-25-2022: Added 'Inspect Elements' to the Edit menu. This new interface provides a visual and heirarchical breakdown of all the objects and containers on the page, along with object properties (including relative and absolute dimensions). It's the F'ing sauce. 03-13-2022: Fixed an issue with identifying required Overlays when referenced within MediumMaps. Improvements to internal XML format handling, for text extraction and searches. Added support for Overlays in XML. Added support for Named Groups in XML. Added support for TLEs in XML. Fixed an issue with BIM names in XML. 01-07-2022: Significant improvements to G42D encoding speed. Improvements to image resource handling and BII objects in AFP-to-PDF conversion. Fixed an issue with underline size in AFP-to-PDF conversion when PGD DPI was different from font DPI. Fixed a similar (or opposite) issue in AFP viewer, where underline position was not correct when the font was a different DPI than the page. 12-28-2021: Possibly fixed (again) the G42D conversion to PDF, where the G42D rules vs RIDIC vs EOL seems to be problematic. 12-20-2021: Added automatic JPG quality adjustments. This is to handle an issue where we have to re-encode JPG data, but we don't know the source quality level. Taking a JPG that was made at 50% quality and then resaving at 100% inflates the size considerably. So we kind of brute-force the quality level from 100 down to 50-ish % until the output size is more in line with the input. Ideally we would analyze the quantization tables in the JPG to try to infer quality, but that's beyond what I have time for this week. 12-17-2021: Corrected decoding/rendering of image objects when no x5A byte was present at the start of the field. This also corrects AFP-to-PDF conversion of those objects. Changed AFP-to-PDF code to output MMR images with 1-bit data instead of 24 bit data. 12-15-2021: Added proper handling of the GOCA/vector fill method (Alternate or Non-Zero-Winding) to the AFP-to-PDF conversion. Still need to add this to the AFP renderer, but both AFP and GDI natively use Alternate method by default, so finding an example of AFP with Non-Zero Winding method is unlikely. Improved recursive handling of objects in containers. For example: an image, in a pagesegment, which is referenced in an overlay, which is referenced by a MediumMap, which is referenced on a page. This includes removing some hacky-looking code for BII objects in overlays. No idea what I was doing there. Fixed an issue in the AFP Optimizer functions, where a high-res image could be resampled by the renderer, but the change in resolution was not calculated into the final output, resulting in incorrect image size. (X-Mas time always sees improvements and additions to the program.) 12-10-2021: Working on some scaling issues with Overlays in MediumMaps during AFP-to-PDF conversion. 12-09-2021: Fixed some scaling issues when viewing GOCA objects. Fixed an issue with white pixels in GOCA images. Added support for GOCA Image commands in AFP-to-PDF conversion. It would also be pretty awesome if GOCA objects were evaluated like images and consolidated. But since we do the absolute scaling ourselves, that might not be an option for a while. 12-08-2021: Corrected an issue with GOCA BOX commands improperly affecting the current path. This change might be required for other contained drawing objects, like circles/elipses. I did NOT make the same change to the GOCA CBOX command. Yet. Overall improvements to the AFP GOCA functions and PDF GOCA functions. Should make future fixes easier. 11-23-2021: Corrected an issue with rendering multiple IRD commands with no ICP commands in BII images. Corrected an issue with pixel color in BII images converting to PDF. Corrected scaling and positioning issues with AFP-to-PDF conversion of PTX objects within BMO (overlay) objects. Corrected an issue with identifying required font resources when referenced in segmented PTX fields. This was a good find. 11-18-2021: More adjustments (fixes?) to font character mapping code. Hoping to not break anything.. :-/ 11-12-2021: Performance improvements through File IO optimizations. Added a CharName-to-Unicode / CharName-to-ANSI function and functions to handle non-standard codepages via CharNames. This seems to work, but is a big change and I'm not sure it's going to work for everyone. 11-01-2021: Improved AFP-to-PDF conversion speed on large files. Corrected most issues with BCOCA objects incorrect position/size/rotation. Adjusted the way AFP-to-PDF color conversions are evaluated based on the specified conversion settings. 11-01-2021: Performance improvements for PCL files, and for internal functions that use XML files. 06-30-2021: Fixed an issue with character spacing in PDF output by adjusting decimal precision in Type 3 fonts. That was way easier than I expected it to be. 06-01-2021: Updated AFP-to-XML font handling code, to be more in sync with AFP-to-PDF functions. This should correct some text-extraction issues. 05-12-2021: Finished settings for TTF subsetting and omitting standard fonts during AFP-to-PDF conversion. 03-29-2021: New font settings. Added PDF tagging support (through AFP NOPs). 11-30-2020: Updates and fixes to PDF output. New TTF functions. Miraculously, TTF subsetting seems to work. THIS WAS A TOUGH PROJECT!! 10-02-2020: Fixed issues in AFP-to-PDF file output. Added PDF image extraction functions. Fixed the text highlight boxes not matching text positions. Minor PCL fixes. 09-03-2020: More additions to new object-oriented PDF libraries. 07-29-2020: Fixed an issue with multi-threading and AFP-to-PDF conversion. Updated the Resource Manager to handle duplicate resource names (of different types). 07-27-2020: Fixed an issue when two resources of different types both had the same name. For example, a pseg named RES00001 and an overlay named RES00001. This required low-level changes to some of the core AFP resource management functions, and changes to the conversion functions and anything that looked up a resource by name. WTF.. 07-26-2020: Fixed an issue with new dynamic offset size in PDF xref table. This should fix a potential issue when writing files larger than 4 GB. 07-21-2020: Numerous additions to new object-oriented PDF libraries. 07-17-2020: Fixed issues with importing resources from one PDF to another when old IDs and new IDs overlapped. Example: Replace IDs 4,5,6 with IDs 5,6,7 This required a re-thinking of the resource re-referencer. The PDF-Background process (importing pages from one PDF and using them as a background/foreground in another PDF) is now working correctly. 07-11-2020: Added automatic temp-file handling to new PDF libraries. 07-02-2020: Fixed an issue with parsing BIM data. I thought this kind of thing didn't happen anymore. So I re-wrote part of the BIM parsing functions to pre-load ALL the IPD data. 06-30-2020: Changed new PDF library to use Lists (and SortedLists) instead of Arrays in many places, hopefully for better memory management and performance. 06-23-2020: Updated JPG library to return a variable indicating whether the jpeg is Progressive or not. The PDF compressor will now check if JPG data is in progressive format, and will not combine compression filters if JPG data is progressive. (per the PDF spec) The size of an offset in the PDF Xref table is now dynamic. This allows for a slight reduction in file size. 06-16-2020: PDF output now consolidates duplicate page content. 06-09-2020: Fixed an issue with the image optimizer, which could result in transparency loss when it should not, due to incorrectly validating transparency requirement on pages. 06-01-2020: Fixed an issue with blank page removal, which could result in a single blank page being left at the end of the output file. 05-23-2020: Fixed an issue that would crash the program on any OS before Win 10. Ooops. 05-15-2020: Fixed a bug in AFP-to-PDF conversion when processing small AFP files that get entirely loaded into RAM for processing. 05-14-2020: Improved AFP-to-PDF conversion speed of GOCA objects by not wasting time clearing a Device Context. 04-16-2020: Fixed handling of fonts with no defined space character. :-/ 04-12-2020: Fixed some page-extraction functions not working correctly when specifying page ranges. Consolidated AFP-to-PDF conversion functions. Cleaned up implementation of optimization functions during page extraction. 04-08-2020: Fixed 'DPI awareness' by ensuring that all image drawing functions adjust the image DPI before calling DrawImage, and restoring it after. This makes sense because all of the drawing functions measure in pixels and scale the images based on their specified DPIs. So technically it is 'DPI aware'. All of this was required because Windows factors in DPI when drawing images (including drawing onto other images), and the screen DPI can change. 04-05-2020: Performance improvements to the AFP-to-PDF conversion and the AFP optimization. Fixed TTF/PDF font support. 04-03-2020: Many performance improvements to the Group4 encoder and decoder. 04-01-2020: Image-Breaker enhancements to both speed and quality. 03-30-2020: Possibly fixed an issue with monitor DPI scaling affecting the size of images on the page. This was caused by a combination of using DPI scaling in Windows, and using PresentationCore in a Windows Forms program. 03-27-2020: Added support for tile-based image breaking. All of the image breaker functions are now chained, so the image breaker will process Vertical, then Horizontal, then Tiled. 03-26-2020: Added support for 8-bit grayscale image data in AFP-to-PDF conversion. Tested the Image Breaker with 8 bit grayscale jpeg output, but size reduction was not worth it (again). Re-enabled the horizontal image breaker. Fixed a bug that prevented single-block color images from being evaluated horizontally. Added a new method of opacity preservation (using a GOCA rectangle) to the Image Breaker, allowing more sections of an image to become black+white. Fixed GOCA positioning in AFP-to-PDF conversion when the GOCA object was within a Page Segment resource. 03-25-2020: Added support for the XfrRes value in FNC commands. This corrects some issues with Relative Metrics fonts. Wish I had figured this one out years ago. Minor GOCA improvements in AFP-to-PDF conversion. 03-13-2020: Added support for custom dash patterns in GOCA conversion to PDF. The actual viewer doesn't support this yet though. 03-12-2020: Added support for writing bookmarks (outlines) in PDFs. 03-11-2020: Fixed missing borders on some GOCA objects in conversion to PDF. 03-10-2020: Fixed TLE viewer not displaying per-page TLE info. This still needs more work. 03-09-2020: Fixed an error that would occur when searching in multiple files and then double-clicking on the results. Improved page caching to work in both directions. Added 'Jog' info to Page Properties window. 02-26-2020: DAY OF TESTING ALL EXAMPLE FILES - GOCA Added some support for non-area drawing elements. Still has issues, but this is a big improvement. Significantly reduced memory usage when converting high-DPI GOCA objects. 02-25-2020: DAY OF TESTING ALL EXAMPLE FILES - IMAGES Fixed transparency mask issue in new CMYK4-to-CMYK1 image conversion for LZW and BMP. Fixed tile-level scaling when converting CMYK4 JPG images. Might need this for LZW and BMP (and everything else) as well. Fixed an image memory access issue when getting image bytes. Specifically 1bit image data. Not sure I understand this one. Fixed BCOCA sizing issue in AFP-to-PDF conversion. Fixed BII (IM1) images being inverted in AFP-to-PDF conversion. Fixed conversion of unbanded 32 bit CMYK jpeg data, which is technically not valid AFP anyway. Yet somehow someone made me a sample. 02-24-2020: DAY OF TESTING ALL EXAMPLE FILES - FONTS and TEXT Fixed font size in AFP-to-PDF conversion when relative metrics fonts were used and the page resolution was 1440 dpi. Fixed font subsetting in AFP-to-PDF conversion not working when pages use overlays that contain fonts and text. This last one could use more investigation. 02-21-2020: Added /Info and /Metadata objects to PDF output, to be closer to PDF/A compliance. 02-20-2020: Added a ToUnicode table for ascii fonts, and removed the /space change that was made on 01-31-2020. While the /space change allowed for proper word highlighting, it also affected the width of the space when highlighting text using the Edit tools in Acrobat. The ToUnicode table fixes the highlighting issue without breaking anything else. 02-19-2020: AFP-to-PDF conversion now converts 4-band CMYK BMP (uncompressed) data to a single CMYK jpeg, preserving the transparency mask if present. Modified the font encoding to allow for correct font point size of text on the page. Previously, the point size was not factored in, and all fonts specified a point size of AFPfontDPI/72. 02-15-2020: AFP-to-PDF conversion now converts 4-band CMYK LZW data to a single CMYK jpeg, preserving the transparency mask if present. AFP-to-PDF conversion now converts 4-band CMYK JPEG data to a single CMYK jpeg, preserving the transparency mask if present. This was changed because Acrobat Pro refuses to compare the output PDFs when they contain a CMYK transparency group for some reason. 02-11-2020: Implemented some basic HP GL2 funcionality to the viewer. Just enough to draw rounded boxes. 02-07-2020: Modified the image caching functions in the AFP-to-PDF conversion, in order to prevent the cache from filling up with tiny images. These functions still need more work to be efficient with both small conversions and large ones. 02-06-2020: Corrected an issue with PNG prediction and padding. I just disabled the PNG prediction compression testing for non-image data. 01-31-2020: Corrected the /Differences table not specifying /space, resulting in large areas of text being highlighted in the PDF when searching. 01-24-2020: Started adding support for HP GL2 commands to PCL viewer. 01-23-2020: Fixed some issues with highlighting rotated text. 01-22-2020: Found and fixed an issue with the Image Breaker functions, which could cause an opaque white area to become transparent. 01-17-2020: Moved the AFPcondenser functions (consolidate images, resample images, break images) into the Extract Pages screen, as options for extracting to AFP. Added my new PDFcompressor functions to the AFP-to-PDF extraction. 01-08-2020: Faster AFP-to-PDF conversion. Corrected an issue in AFP-to-PDF conversion when the dimensions of a transparency mask did not match the dimensions of the foreground image. This was pretty complicated, as I had to decode the Group4 data onto a new image of the correct size and then re-encode the new image as Group4 data. 12-18-2019: Changed the way that Separated CMYK JPG image data is handled, resulting in better color representation. It's a bit slower, but the better color accuracy is worth it until I find a way to speed it up. Removed the stupid option I had added for simulating CMYK colors. 12-16-2019: Fixed Adler32 calculation in Deflate codec of PDF conversion, which was using the compressed bytes instead of the uncompressed bytes to calculate a checksum. Added the /ID tag to output PDFs. Working toward PDF/A-1a conformance. Swapped some RGB black commands for CMYK black commands in PDF output. Removed dynamic padding from PNG-Predicted Deflate compression. Acrobat handled it fine, but Vera PDF verification software complained. 12-13-2019: Corrected decoder for RunLengthEncode not handling the End-Of-Data flag (x80). Disabled LZW encoder, since Acrobat would not open PDFs when the Xref table is compressed with LZW compression and this calls my entire LZW algorithm into question. 11-16-2019 thru 12-03-2019: Building a new PDF reader / writer / compressor. 11-13-2019: Corrected a DPI scaling issue with GOCA objects. 11-04-2019: Corrected an issue in the AFPresampler, which could crash the program while analyzing transparent images. 11-01-2019: Corrected an issue with the AFPresampler when downsampling 8bit image data with a transparency mask. Adjusted how some Group4 images are added to a PDF, allowing additional compression (Group4+Deflate). 10-31-2019: Corrected an issue in the PDF Stream Compressor, which could add incorrect padding to data before PNG-predicting the data. Corrected AFPresampler always assuming 4x8 CMYK data was in JPEG format. 10-29-2019: Wrote a converter for 24bit-to-8bit grayscale, since I was having palette issues with Windows GDI+ when converting 24bit to 8bit images. 10-23-2019: Tested optimizations to the page contents stream, with fewer BeginText and EndText blocks, and fewer text formatting commands. Improvement was minor. Less than 1k per page after compression. Disabled for now. 10-17-2019: Wrote some brilliant font consolidation functions for AFP-to-PDF conversion. 10-16-2019: Implemented Windows Imaging decoder to handle 40 bit CMYK TIFs in BOC structures. Fixed some issues with BOC objects converting to PDF. NEED TO ADD TRANSPARENCY SUPPORT in BOC conversion. 10-11-2019: Wrote functions that test multiple compression methods to find the best one, and return the required filter string for PDF encoding. The result is slower conversion and very minor improvement in file size. So I disabled the unrealistic filters. 10-10-2019: Wrote PNG predictor functions for Deflate compression. 10-09-2019: Wrote horizontal predictor function for Deflate compression. 10-08-2019: Tested multiple methods of JPEG2000 encoding for AFP-to-PDF conversion. 09-30-2019: Fixed an issue with the Flate encoder not including the checksum bytes at the end of the stream. I added 4 empty bytes to the stream. Seems good now. This was causing errors in Adobe Reader 7, and also random issues in Edge browser. 09-27-2019: Size reductions to PDF output by removing unnecessary white-space characters from PDF output. Wrote a Group4 2D encoder. Using it as a compression option for black+white images (including font characters) in PDF output. Seems to work so far. Other optimizations to output. 09-06-2019: Fixed some issues with PCL-to-XML conversion. 09-04-2019: Replaced IsEOF checks with offset/length checks in multiple functions. This may improve performance, since IsEOF checks always occur in loops. 08-27-2019: Added an option to the AFPviewer to save PDFs uncompressed. 08-26-2019: Modified AFPcondenser to consolidate images within Overlay objects. 08-23-2019: Implemented stringbuilders in the AFPcondenser for faster processing. 08-22-2019: Fixed PCL rotated images not rotating. 08-20-2019: Corrected an issue with transparent image groups, which would slow down the conversion process because the group object wasn't being added to an array. Text-consolidation results are not worth pursuing (again). 08-19-2019: Implemented compression on the CMYK color tables in PDFs. This saves around 3K off of every PDF. Working on text object consolidation via Form XObjects. 08-16-2019: Added more compression and object consolidation in conversion to PDF. Duplicate page content length objects will now be consolidated. Duplicate page annotations dictionaries will now be consolidated. Implemented Object Stream for compressing the page Resources dictionary. Implemented Object Stream for compressing the Pages array. 08-15-2019: Added more compression and object consolidation in conversion to PDF. Duplicate page content streams will now be consolidated. 08-14-2019: Replaced a string with a stringbuilder in the loop that builds the page table at the end of the PDF. Removed repeated file look-ups for an empty file name, due to a large array initialized with empty values. These changes result in better performance, especially when making huge PDFs. 08-13-2019: Separated PCL raster DECODING from the actual DRAWING operations. This is to accomodate image processing for PDF conversion. Still need to find an example of ADAPTIVE compression type in PCL data. And RLE compression. 08-12-2019: Rewrote some file functions that generated exceptions when looking for certain resource files. 08-09-2019 Fixed an issue in AFP-to-XML conversion when looking up codepage/charset resources, which would not find the resources due to ascii/ebcdic name conflict. Added support for shading patterns when filling rectangles in PCL rendering. Added initial support for hatch patterns, but need example data to test with. This is a cool solution to the EBCDIC/ASCII PDF-text problem, but this does not fix it (YET) for mapped fonts using a TTF or PDF. Still great progress. AGAIN fixed new AFP-to-PDF conversion problems with characters positioned entirely above the baseline with no Descender specified. Looks like everything is good now. Font testing tips (for me): Test on-screen display and AFPtoPDF conversion. Test with all characters. Test with ASCII and EBCDIC encoding. Test with fixed-metrics and relative-metrics fonts. Test with mapped-TTF fonts, mapped-PDF fonts, and unmapped fonts. 06-17-2015: Fixed new AFP-to-PDF conversion problems with characters positioned entirely above the baseline with no Descender specified. 06-16-2015: Modified the Check For Updates code to take hours and minutes into account, instead of just comparing date. Added "Browse File Location" to the File menu. 06-12-2015: Cleaned up some of the Check For Updates code. It now uses the built-in Assembly Date, instead of the date of the AFPviewer.exe file. Added better transparency support for BII images (IM-Images), but I don't think I have any examples to test. 06-11-2015: Cleaned up more font code and more image code. I *may* have fixed the transparency conflict with page-segments. (psg should be 'transparent' but images in the PSG should NOT.) So now fonts should work whether they are mapped or not, and whether they are relative metrics or not, and whether they use a CodedFont, or just CodePage+CharSet. Lucky this worked. Also changed DC for GOCA from 24bit to 32bit. Not sure if this was required to accomodate the fix above or not, but wanted to play it safe. 02-27-2015: Corrected the AFPtoXML functions (used for text searching) to handle relative-metrics fonts. This mostly corrects the text-highlighting when searching. Might also help with copying text. 02-26-2015: Added support for accurately displaying images with transparency masks. This was actually a pretty complex thing, handled in a somewhat elegant way. Go me! Could still be more efficient though. Right now the transparency mask is loaded to a 24bit bitmap instead of an 8bit or 1bit bitmap for the sake of simplicity. 02-24-2015: Added preliminary support for complex object containers (PDFs, etc). Updated code for BOC, MDR, and IOB. Added some support for displaying PDF pages. It works for single-page (first page) PDF references. The ability to view a PDF relies on Adobe Acrobat. Behind the scenes, the program loads the PDF in Acrobat, goes to the required page, copies it to the clipboard, and then pulls the image off the clipboard. 02-11-2015: Modified the "Find Text" code to better handle case-insensitive searching in EBCDIC text. 02-01-2015: Wrote a new CMYK layer combiner, thinking I could make it faster by using 8bit images instead of 24bit images. Turned out it was 15% slower than the current method. Failburger. 01-29-2015: Fixed an issue with MediumMap and page scaling. Need to confirm that MediumMap size will override PGD size correctly. Modified IDD code to check for (and use) IOCA SetExtendedBilevelColor parameter if specified. This fixes display of GOCA graphics converted through Stage1 CLR-to-AFP. Prior to this, the program checked for SetBilevelColor but not SetExtendedBilevelColor. Added in constants for IOCA Encodings: JBIG2, TIF PackBits, and TIF2. -JBIG2 will probably be a full container that can maybe be rendered through .Net just like current JPEG data. -PackBits will probably require writing another TIF file wrapper, just like current LZW data. -No idea on TIF2 yet. Hopefully just another TIF file wrapper. 01-26-2015: Removed all CopyMemory calls, replaced with .Net bitconverter and array.copy. 01-23-2015: For x64 - Removed all VisualBasic.Compatibility references. For x64 - Removed modMenu. Wasn't being used. For x64 - Removed modIcon. Moved into modDC. For x64 - Removed modPrinters. Replaced with threaded managed .NET solution. Surprisingly easy. 01-15-2015: New method for displaying CMYK JPG images, leading to more accurate color and faster display. The trick on this one is to draw each image in memory to get 24bit raster data. Then extract the bytes out of memory (converting CMYK to RGB), and build a new byte-array, and lastly push that into a new image. Modified AFPviewer to highlight text when searching. Works well enough, but need to test more. 01-14-2015: Came up with a new way to load CMYK LZW images, leading to much more accurate color reproduction. Came up with a new way to load CMYK-separated LZW images, leading to much more accurate color reproduction. The trick is to extract all layers and build a CMYK-separated TIF on the fly. 01-08-2015: Fixed an error in GOCA code that was causing a one-pixel variance in positions. Most obvious on PARC/CPARC followed by CLINE. This was caused by two things: 1. The program was calculating (or trying to calculate) the new position after the arc, possibly with a rounding error. 2. The program was drawing a line to the new position when starting a LINE/CLINE. It looks like maybe this would have not been a problem if part 1 had been using the UNSCALED values for calculating the new position!! Or if part2 wasn't drawing a line to the start point. 01-07-2015: Modified AFPtoDC to manually blend CMYK layers into RGB images for accurate color reproduction. Feels pretty slow though. :( Tried a memory-hack to speed it up. This image processing method is a good balance of performance and simplicity, since it re-uses the AFPtoDC code to make images for AFPtoPDF. 12-30-2014: Added Page Load-Time to Page Properties. For testing performance enhancements. Fixed a problem with rendering BBC image area size when using default values. The solution was to pre-process the entire barcode to get the required size. 12-29-2014: Fixed RIDIC support in AFPtoPDF for 1bit CCITT data. Without the API solution, it was going to be a mess. 05-20-2011: If an outline font is encountered, and a font with matching name is installed in windows, the program will use the windows font to draw the text. If an outline font is encountered, and there is no matching font installed in windows, the program will fall back to Courier New 9pt Blue. Prior to this change, outline fonts were always drawn in the default 'unknown font' of Courier New 9pt Blue. Eventually, the program will be smart enough to extract the outline font, install it in windows, use it, and remove it. The resource is referenced with a name like 'X1' but the actual resource name is 'X0'. Using nothing but code, it is now possible to: -Open an existing (or new) PDF file -Add font and image resources -create pages containing text, images, line-art -move pages -delete pages -close the file 03-06-2008: Added new function to modPDF: PDFwrite_CreateFileFromExistingPDF. This basically copies all of the existing PDF, except for the closing structures, and allows the file to be appended with other modPDFwrite functions. Though not really related to the AFPviewer, this is still extremely cool. -- -- 09-07-2007: Fixed an error that would leave an AFP file locked if the file referenced inline page-segments, medium-maps, or page-overlays. This error prevented the "Delete File" and "Move File" functions from working. This error was most likely introduced on 09-19-2006. 09-04-2007: Added a button for testing FTP connection settings (on the Settings window). 08-24-2007: Removed the SlideShow Options window. Replaced with a frame on the Preferences window. The result is a smaller EXE. Working on Relative-Metrics Fonts in AFP-to-PDF conversion. 08-17-2007: Adapted some functions in the AFP-to-PDF conversion to accomodate fonts that use a CodePage and CharSet without a CodedFont. Basically, bolted some ugly code onto a few procedures. 08-15-2007: Came up with a way to directly embed TTF files in a PDF. The AFP-to-PDF conversion will now work with TTF fonts as well as "PDF fonts". This I think is very cool. Re-designed the Preferences window, with a more user-friendly interface, more options, and more expandability. 08-10-2007: Fixed a bug in AFP-to-PDF conversion when fonts are external resource files. Fixed a bug in the FNG/CrLf removal code. Fixed a bug in AFP-to-PDF conversion where character A-space was being ignored. 08-08-2007: Implemented Type3 fonts in AFP-to-PDF conversion as a fall-back when PDF fonts are not mapped. Not 100% perfect, but pretty close! NOTE: This does NOT presently convert EBCDIC text to ASCII for copying text from the PDF. NOTE: For the best quality on-screen rendering, Acrobat version 6 or higher is recommended. NOTE: There could potentially be bugs that I am not yet aware of. Version 1.1.1 07-22-2007: Experimenting with Type3 fonts in PDFs. Pro: Does not require mapping AFP fonts to "PDF fonts". It just works. Con: Larger and more complex PDF files. Pro: Can be a fall-back if font-mapping is not available. Con: Looks bad on the screen with Acrobat 5 or earlier -- STILL PRINTS GOOD QUALITY. Con: Adds more complicated code to the AFP-to-PDF conversion routines. 07-18-2007: Fixed the SlideShow functionality. 07-06-2007: Fixed the "Fit-In-Window" functionality under the "View" menu. 06-15-2007: Changed the way the Viewer program applies an image-overlay to the page. Image-overlays are now persistent, and can be toggled on/off. 05-01-2007: Fixed an error where multiple PageUp or PageDown commands would cause a file-error. 03-05-2007: Fixed an error that prevented the "Apply Overlay" functionality from working. 02-15-2007: Fixed an error in modConvert_AFPtoPDF where text would be drawn in the wrong location if no position command was present between orientation command (STO) and text command (TRN). 02-06-2007: Removed the Extract Resources interface. Replaced with the new Resource Manager interface. Version 1.1.0 02-05-2007: Added an interface for displaying Resource-Usage. This used to be a separate program. But, having now come up with a pseudo-ListView, it has been added to the AFPviewer. 01-16-2007: When an unsupported MODCA color is encountered, it is now printed in greyish-green, instead of black. This will probably be changed at some point. 12-19-2006: Changed the way that font charset resources are processed during AFPtoPDF conversion. Faster, but kind of obscure. 10-11-2006: Fixed a small bug that was added to the program on 10-04-2006, which could cause the last font in an MCF field to not be treated as a required font. 10-10-2006: Fixed a bug in the Viewer program that caused the Extract-Pages window to treat the page-dimensions specification as integer values instead of decimal values. Modified the Find window in the Viewer program to display the number of results when the 'Display Results In A List' option is selected. 10-06-2006: Modified the File-Open dialog in the Viewer program to list 'AFP Files' or 'All Files'. 10-04-2006: Rewrote the resource verification functions. Now faster and cleaner. Modified the PageProperties window of the Viewer program, to indicate which resources are In-Line. Modified the PDF_FormatNumber function in modPDF to make sure the decimal point is always a period (not a comma) due to international differences. 10-03-2006: Fixed an error where an image offset was not being scaled correctly, causing an image to be draw in the wrong location. The IOCA image-rendering functions could use a clean-up. Modified the Viewer program to prevent PageUp/PageDown and ArrowUp/ArrowDown keys from accidentally scrolling within the Zoom and FileList dropdown boxes. Basically, after drawing a page, the program sets the focus to the frame that displays the page. 10-02-2006: Modified Viewer program to locate X0 fonts when an X1 font is specified and cannot be located. Fixed an error in modConvert_AFP2DC where FNG fields were not being read correctly when CrLf was present between fields. The program is roughly 30,000 lines of code, not counting blank lines or comments. 09-27-2006: Contemplating an AFPtoPDF conversion that builds Type3 fonts into the PDF, instead of TrueType fonts. This would eliminate the need for font-mapping, but could result in larger PDF files, and decreased text fidelity. 09-25-2006: Rewrote all text-rendering code to handle relative-metrics, and mixed DPI (ie an overlay at 1440dpi on a 300dpi page). Version 1.0.9 09-19-2006: Implemented some private 'state' variables, kind of like a Graphics-State in a PDF. - FileState maintains the afpFileName, afpFileSize, afpFileNumber. - PageState maintains PageWidth, PageHeight, PageDPIx, PageDPIy, PageXOffset, PageYoffset, MCFarray. - TextState maintains Xpos, Ypos, ILrotation, BLrotation, ILmargin, BLincrement, FontNumber, Color, VarSpaceInc, Interchar-Adjustment, UnderLine, OverStrike. This means there are far fewer variables being passed from function to function. Cleaner code. Also, this makes the code more like a Class than a Module. 09-13-2006: Modified the resource-verification functions, to handle pages that do not have a MCF or MCF1 field. 09-05-2006: Modified function BII_2_DC in modConvert_AFP2DC, to accomodate IID structures that do not specify the correct size. Basically, I added a function to parse the entire BII-EII structure, and determine the maximum extent of the image. 09-04-2006 Modified the resource verification functions, so that only fonts that are actually used in a PTX field will be considered 'required'. The old method treated any font in an MCF/MCF1 field as a required font, even if the font wasn't used on the page. 09-01-2006: Finally added support for fonts using Relative Metrics to modConvert_AFP2DC. It doesn't quite work right for rotated text yet though. So, not done yet. 08-31-2006: High-resolution (600dpi) pages take way too long to draw/scroll on the screen. Need to remedy this. 08-30-2006: Changed the way images are copied in memory. Instead of copying the entire image, it is now broken down into tiles and copied. This gets around some memory limitations. Maximum tile size is set at 1000x1000 pixels for now. An AFP page is now processed twice when converting to PDF. Once for the images, and again for the text, lines, and psegs. Arrays are maintained for resource consolidation, resulting in a 75% decrease in file size for some files. Added support for 32bit JPEG CMYK images to modConvert_AFP2PDF (output PDFs require Acrobat 5 or higher). 06-15-2006: Added the ability to print more than one page at a time. Added function AFPwrite_AddPageObject_BMPfile. The function treats each row of the BMP as a cell with a height of 1 pixel. Supports 1-bit images. 10-06-2005: Added some functions to modAFP to support writing BCOCA objects (barcodes). These will probably never be used. Added BCOCA constants for BarcodeType. Modified definitions for converting AFP color codes to color-names and RGB (thanks to the most recent MODCA spec). 10-05-2005: Modified function PDF_FormatNumber to no longer use the Format$ function. Instead, it separates the integer and decimal parts of a number (using integers) and appends the integer and first 3 decimal digits. Some Performace increase. File Size increase of up to 5%. 09-20-2005: Modified function AFPfile_GetInitialComments to read up to 10 fields of non-NOP data before giving up on comments. Modified Viewer program to convert null characters (char 0) to spaces when viewing file comments. Fixed an error in function IPDS_GetWICinfo, which was not retreiving the correct Y-position value. 08-25-2005: Modified Viewer program to accomodate non-integer point sizes for PDF fonts (for AFPtoPDF conversion). -- -- 06-30-2005: Added function PDF_BuildLinearizationDictionaryString to modPDF. Eventually, this may be used for writing Linearized PDFs (not for a while). 06-10-2005: Modified functions PDFread_GetFileFontArray and PDFread_LoadFileResources to utilize open file numbers instead of re-opening a file. Modified modAFP2PDF PDFfont resource processing, to cache PDFfont info to avoid parsing PDFfont files for every conversion. 05-20-2005: Fixed an error in AFPtoXML conversion when compensating for special XML characters in string data. 05-16-2005: Fixed an error in AFPtoXML conversion when processing MCF commands, which corrupted the internal array of cached AFP fonts. 05-11-2005: Fixed text processing in AFPtoXML conversion to compensate for markup characters (greater-than, less-than, and ampersand). Finally added full font support to AFPtoXML conversion (similar to AFPtoPDF). The above change allows text width to be calculated, and allows ascii/ebcdic codepage detection. Added 'copy selected text' functionality to Viewer program. Not super-precise, but it works. 04-29-2005: 90% of UDTs passed to API functions have been replaced with byte-arrays. Only modDC and modPrinters need to be addressed. 04-24-2005: Removed the /Name entry of objects added to a PDF (images, fonts, etc). Removed the /ColorSpace entry from images that are defined as ImageMasks. The above changes help reduce file size, and they are recommended by the PDF spec. 04-23-2005: Reverted to a backup of the code for modPDF and modConvert_AFP2PDF from 04-11-2005. Re-implemented the change from 04-21-2005 to add 1-bit TIF files to a PDF as ImageMasks. Re-implemented the change from 04-19-2005 to reference fonts by shorter names ('F0', 'F1', 'F2', etc). Re-implemented the change from 04-13-2005 to functions 'PDFwrite_GetResourceIDMapFromID' and 'PDFwrite_GetResourceIDMapFromOriginalName'. Basically, un-did everything involving image/pattern consolidation. 04-21-2005: Modified modPDF to treat 1-bit TIFs as ImageMasks when added to a PDF. This allows the white areas to be transparent. 04-19-2005: Modified modPDF to consolidate duplicate Pattern objects (under 4k in size) on the same page. Considering similar consolidation for small duplicate page-level images (big ones take too long to compare) into modConvert_AFP2PDF. Modified modConvert_AFP2PDF to reference fonts by names 'F0', 'F1', 'F2', etc, instead of encoding the entire AFP font name ('X0ARxxx'). 04-13-2005: Removed all old functions based on strings from modAFP. Newer functions still have the '_Bytes' suffix, which will eventually be removed. Still trying to get more speed out of AFP-to-PDF conversion. Modified some very important functions (PDFwrite_GetResourceIDMapFrom...). 03-29-2005: To Do:Finish modConvert_AFP2XML, and use it to remodel modConvert_AFP2DC. Then, attempt modConvert_AFP2DIB, and modConvert_DIB2TIF. The above changes are estimated to cut AFPtoTIF conversion time by 50%. 03-23-2005: Modified modConvert_AFP2PDF to embed images using their full path filename (with slashes being replaced by asterisks) and file size as the ImageID. The above change allows images with the same name from different folders to be embedded. The above change also allows images with the same name from the same folder with different sizes to be embedded. 03-22-2005: Modified modConvert_AFP2PDF to accept pattern-filled IOCA uncompressed images. The above change is required because new versions of Pres utilize pattern-filled IOCA uncompressed images instead of IM-Images. The above change needs to be expanded to work with pattern-filled IOCA compressed images. And all of this needs to be applied to modConvert_AFP2DC. 03-18-2005: Fixed an error in modConvert_AFP2PDF that did not allow overlays to be used, due to a resource naming issue. 03-01-2005: Added functionality allowing extraction of AFP pages (with required resources). This still does not embed external resources though. 02-16-2005: Contemplating new 'Cancel' functions. AFPread_GetPageOffsetArray_CANCEL, Convert_AFPtoPDF_CANCEL. In modConvert_AFP2PDF, added FileExists check before opening the AFP file, and any PDF fonts. Need to do the same for images. 02-14-2005: Added 'Delete File' option under 'File' menu in Viewer program. Changed MRU list in Viewer program to hold 9 items instead of 8. Removed some unnecessary stuff from modPDF. Nothing special. Fixed an error in modConvert_AFP2PDF, which would cause page-segments to be ignored if the file contained no fonts. 02-11-2005: Modified Viewer program to allow conversion to PDF even if some fonts are not mapped. The above change will make testing and debugging of missing-font issues much easier. 02-10-2005: Modified the way AFPfonts and PDFfonts are loaded, managed, and used in modConvert_AFP2PDF. Result: Conversion time dropped by 38% or more. All unnecessary performance bottle-necks have been removed. 5,142 page file that used to take 6 minutes to convert now takes 110 seconds. 85% of conversion time is spent on string-construction for Text and Rects in the PDF. Fixed an error in modConvert_AFP2PDF which caused pageCropWidths to be ignored. 02-09-2005: Reduced the size of AFPfont structure in modConvert_AFP2PDF considerably. 02-08-2005: Added Resource-Count tracking to modPDF, and removed UBound and ReDim statements for PDFwrite Resources. Changed numerous optional variables in private functions to no longer be optional. 02-07-2005: Reduced PDF file size by setting text position with 'Td' command instead of 'cm' command for non-rotated text. The above change works because each text object is enclosed in BT...ET commands. Result: 7,600 page file went from 95 megs to 90 megs. No Noticable quality loss. 02-04-2005: Reduced PDF file size by not specifying color for an operation if color is black, and setting color back to black after a non-black operation. The above change applies to Text, Rects, Patterns, and Lines. Result: 7,600 page file went from 111 megs to 95 megs. 02-02-2005: Added some constants to modPDF, which speed up the FindNextStopPos function. Made numerous small changes to get more speed. 01-31-2005: Enabled text searching in Viewer program, via AFPtoXML conversion. It's not perfect yet, but it is useful to have. Things that need to be completed: text highlight, results list, unicode. 01-26-2005: Finished clean-up of modConvert_AFP2PDF. Fixed an error in Pattern code in modPDF, which specified incorrect pattern raster width. 01-25-2005: Rewrote BPT_2_PDF function in modConvert_AFP2PDF, breaking it down into 5 parts (BPT, PTX, PTX_DIR, PTX_DBR, PTX_TRN), much like modConvert_AFP2XML. Fixed an error in Pattern code in modPDF, which caused PDFs using patterns to be unviewable in Acrobat 5. Modified function PDFwrite_AddPageObject_Rect to accept Xpos, Ypos, Width, Height instead of X1, Y1, X2, Y2. Removed all global variables from modConvert_AFP2PDF. They were unnecessary, as the module has only one public function. 01-24-2005: Modified the way patterns are printed. Now, the pattern increment is 0.1 points greater than the pattern size. The above change resolves the issue with patterns zoomed below 100%, with only a very small loss of print quality. Functions that create an empty data-type in modConvert... modules now accept the variable by-reference, instead of dimensioning a new one to return. Removed more functions from modConvert_AFP2PDF. Attempting to re-structure a bit. 01-20-2005: IM-Images that utilize fill-width or fill-height are now written to a PDF as a Pattern resource. IM-Images that do not utilize fill-width or fill-height are written to a PDF as a page-level (inline) image. 01-19-2005: Changed the way IM-Images in AFP files are converted to PDF. Now taking advantage of patterns in PDFs. The above change results in much smaller PDFs, but pattern quality degrades when zoomed below 100%. Resource-Tracking for Pattern resources in modPDF is slightly confusing, but it works. 01-17-2005: Minor optimizations. Reduced PDF file size by eliminating unnecessary data (specifically the Td command). Size went down by 3 MegaBytes on 5,142 page file. The file mentioned above takes 16 seconds to verify resources, and 6 minutes 2 seconds to convert to PDF. Created new function PDF_FormatText, which is hopefully faster than seven calls to the Replace function. Renamed more functions in modConvert... modules. Removed a few more unnecessary functions. 01-13-2005: Viewer program now verifies AFP resources before page extraction (to download any missing resources from FTP). Tested 'Advanced Compiler Options'. Disabled all error checking. Though everything worked, no noticable speed gain. 01-12-2005: Removed XY-Tracking in Viewer program. Added 'Extract Resources' dialog to Viewer program. 01-10-2005: Modified AFP2PDF functions to use new core functions based on byte-arrays. Old core functions based on strings will remain for a while, just in case of an emergency. Version 1.0.8 01-09-2005: Modified function PDFwrite_AddPageObject_Text to allow 'Word-Space' to be specified. Modified modConvert_AFP2PDF to utilize Word-Space setting in PDF output to create more accurate PDFs. Accuracy is now near 100%. Due to the above change, PDF file output size went up by less than 1 kilobyte per page (on average). Removed useless elements of the internal datatype 'AFPfont' in modConvert_AFP2... modules. 01-07-2004: Modified AFP2DC functions to use new core functions based on byte-arrays. Once the AFP2PDF functions are modified to use the new core functions (and tested), the old core functions based on strings can be removed. 01-06-2005: Found and fixed a very old error in the AFPread_GetCodepageInfo function. The function would continue reading past the end of the codepage and read any following codepages until reaching a BeginPage command. The result of the error was an incorrect space character or default character. 01-04-2005: Created 'Page Properties' dialog in Viewer program. Cleaned up 'File Properties' dialog in Viewer program. Similar to the 'File Properties' dialog in Explorer. 12-28-2004: Modified AFP2XML functions to use new core functions based on byte-arrays. 12-26-2004: Wrote new versions for ALL of the core AFP functions for reading fields. New functions accept byte-arrays instead of strings. New functions are suffixed with '_Bytes' for now. The Byte-arrays are passed by-reference, instead of by-value. This should be faster. Byte-arrays require less memory, and can be used with CopyMemory. 12-20-2004: Fixed byte order for StripByteCount in TIFwrite functions. AFP2XML is 70% done. 12-15-2004: Renamed numerous conversion functions in modConvert... modules. Not done yet though. 12-13-2004: Renamed 'modImageFiles' to 'modDC'. Started modXML and modConvert_AFP2XML. 12-07-2004: Modified more AFPread functions in modAFP and modConvert_AFP... to pass file numbers, avoid re-opening files. The above changes still require some function renaming. Moved CCITT code from modImageFiles to modTIF. 11-30-2004: Re-designed 'SlideShow' dialog and functionality in Viewer program. 11-29-2004: Modified modAFP to use sorted arrays for AFPresources. This applies to AFPread_ functions and AFPwrite_ functions. Re-designed 'Extract Pages' dialog and functionality in Viewer program to accomodate multi-page or single-page extraction to different formats. Removed menu 'File_SaveAs...' from Viewer program, as it was unnecessary after the above change. 11-28-2004: Started modTTF for working with TrueTypeFont files. This will be beneficial in numerous ways. 11-23-2004: Renamed some functions. AFPread_Find... functions being replaced with AFPread_Get... functions. Modified parameters for BPG_2_PDF function to accept psegImagePath variable. This is more straight-forward than using either the AFPresourcePath or PDFresourcePath for PSeg Images. 11-22-2004: Modified the sorted array functions to accept a parameter for itemCount, to avoid some array redimensioning. 11-10-2004: Wrote numerous string-array functions for use with sorted arrays. Function names are prefixed 'ArraySsorted_'. Cleaned up AFPread_GetPageRequirements function(s) to utilize sorted arrays. The above change resulted in performance gains and much less memory usage when reading multiple pages. 11-09-2004: Cleaned up BPT_2_PDF code in modConvert_AFP2PDF. Now utilizing byte-arrays. 11-08-2004: Modified the way character widths are managed. Now using a small resource array initialized in BPG_2_PDF function. This reduced the performance hit incurred from the TextWidth checking (09-23-2004) by 90% or more. Added more open file number support to PDFread functions. Modified ASCII/EBCDIC conversion functions in modAFP to avoid performance hit from string concatenation. Dramatically reduced PDFwrite output file size by adjusting (and utilizing) precision on decimal values. Results of change described above: 50 page PDF file was 1,275 KB. Now 908 KB. No noticable quality loss. And less disk-writing = more speed. 11-01-2004: Finally renamed modAFPDS to simply modAFP. 10-15-2004: Modified parameters for function BPG_2_PDF. All resource arrays (except Overlays) use the specified Resource Path. 10-11-2004: Fixed an error in AFP_GetMPSinfo and AFP_GetMMOinfo, causing the last mapped object to be omitted from the array. Began writing output management code for AFPwrite_ functions. Similar to PDFwrite_ functions, but not as complicated. 10-08-2004: Added more functionality to AFPwrite_ functions. Attempting to offer all the abilities of PReS. 10-04-2004: Modified AFPwrite_ functions to accept an open file number, and condensed AFPwrite_ file I/O functions. 09-30-2004: Moved datatypes 'AFPfont' and 'AFPchar' (and associated functions) out of modAFPDS, and into 'modConvert_AFP2...' modules.
